Founded in 1996 in Ustka on the Baltic coast of Poland, the company employs over 3,000 people in eight countries. Attention to quality, innovation, customer service and consumer appeal continuously drives growth at Morpol, which is now the world leading processor of salmon and market leader in smoked salmon. Morpol was founded by CEO Jerzy Malek who saw the potential of salmon aquaculture and the growing demand for smoked salmon.

Morpol is the world leading processor of salmon and the market leader in smoked and marinated salmon. The company was founded in Ustka on the Baltic coast of Poland by Jerzy Malek, the CEO, in 1996. The original activity was canning cod liver but this rapidly evolved into salmon processing as Jerzy Malek saw the potential of salmon aquaculture in Norway and the growing demand for smoked salmon in Europe. An engineering background and passion for quality led Jerzy Malek to design unique processing and smoking equipment for Morpol. Salmon processing began at Morpol in 1998. Through the efforts of the enthusiastic and knowledgeable management team, Morpol is now the world leading processor of salmon and market leader in smoked and marinated salmon.

The focus on quality, innovation, customer service and consumer appeal continues to drive growth at Morpol.

Cooperation with largest salmon supplier Marine Harvest, from 2003, and processor Royal Greenland, from 2005, raised our profile and brought valuable knowledge and experience to Morpol. This was enhanced in 2007 by the acquisition of the Laschinger Group in Germany, which at that time was the leading smoked salmon processor in Europe. Morpol Japan opened in the same year. Morpol UK and France were established in 2008. Morpol America followed in 2009 and Morpol Italy in 2010. Growth in demand and sales success enabled Morpol to expand its processing plant by 50% in 2010. We are significantly larger than our nearest competitor and we are assessing opportunities in other countries where smoked salmon and related products have an attractive potential.

The Morpol product range is based on smoked and marinated salmon in a variety of formats and packaging options convenient for retail display and consumer use. In addition Morpol has a growing range of imaginative value added products, products for sushi and sashimi and fresh and frozen salmon items.

Fish is good to eat

Fish is now known to be part of a healthy diet and supporting evidence from research continues to accumulate. Many health and food advisory bodies recommend regular consumption of fish, especially the more oily fish such as salmon. These fish are rich sources of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids that confer most of the health benefits. Fish are also excellent sources of vitamins and minerals.
